SET 1 : GETTING READY TO LEARN
Making the transition from school to university

There are many challenges that students like me will face especially during the first day of university. Most will get easily homesick and may not be able to adapt with the environment of having to walk on their own feet. Here are some of the challenges or changes that student will face when going through as a student life in university compared to when in high school.

In conclusion the lifestyle in high school and to college/university is much more difficult especially to new students who isn't fully used to the environment because everything that you do in university is based on yourself unlike in high school where u have your parents every time you face any kind of problem. In University you will train yourself naturally how to survive alone without any guidance eg: parents. This will be useful in the future to train your survival to survive in the real world.

Characteristics of succesful students

1. Intellectually curious

In order to be a successful student, it is particularly important that you are interested in and engaged with your subject.

2. Self-driven

Unlike in school, at university, you are expected to manage your own workload, attendance, and engagement. If you start to miss classes or assessments, you will quickly find your grades slipping, or worse, you may even fail.

3. Good time management

The ability to organise your time and schedule is another incredibly important ability. Successful students should plan their weeks and semesters well in advance to ensure they can attend all the classes that they need to

4. Admitting you don't understand

One quality which is often overlooked is the ability to admit when you don't understand something. Although you may feel embarrassed to admit the gaps in your knowledge, it is the only way to learn. It's fine to say that you don't know something, or that you don't understand it.

5. Creative and original

The ability to come up with new ideas or new ways of thinking about a problem is a characteristic of an exceptional student. So don't be afraid to give your own opinion on a topic or argument, even if it's contradictory to what others have
\\
said.

6. Solid reading, writing, and analysis skills

Whatever subject you study, there are some skills that you will always need. The ability to read materials and glean the relevant facts, the ability to write up your findings in a clear and engaging way

7. Communication skills

Being able to present the information you know to both a lay audience and an expert audience is vital for demonstrating your grasp of the material. You should get in practise at presenting orally, making slides, and engaging in debates in order to get the most from your studies.

8. Understanding other perspectives

Finally, one characteristic which you may not realize that you need is the ability to listen to and understand other people. Academic success is not only about putting forward your own views; it is also about being able to engage productively with people who have a different perspective. Learn to listen.

Using learning styles to enhance performance

There are 3 types of learning styles.Everyone have their own learning style.3 of the learning styles are;

Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic

Visual Learners: Students that understand and learn best when information is presented to them visually. Seeing information helps these students visualize concepts taught.
Auditory Learners: Students that understand and learn best when information is presented to them in an auditory manner. Hearing information helps these students internalize concepts taught.
Kinesthetic Learners: Students that understand and learn best when information is presented to them kinesthetically. Using their hands or bodies helps these students experience the concepts taught.
